1970

A Legacy of Excellence

Jim Houghton founded J Houghton & Son Electrical Contractors, with son Ian Houghton setting up a Building Division in the late 1970s. Establishing a family business in Essex.

1993

Continuing the Family Tradition

In 1993, Ian Houghton succeeded his father and formally registered the company as Houghton & Son Ltd, expanding its services to include building, property management and electrical works.

2010

The Third Generation

Jamie, Ryan, and Lewis Houghton have been on board as the third generation from 2010. The three brothers continue to expand and shape the company under Ian Houghton’s guidance.

2020

Looking to the Future

Our growth has been driven by traditional values of excellent workmanship that leave customers satisfied. Our dedicated core team has been with us for years, fostering long-term trust and delivering consistent quality.

2023

Celebrating 30 years

We celebrated our 30th Anniversary in 2023. We now have over 120 fantastic staff and engineers to help make Houghton & Son what it is today.
